IT Manager through Software Engineer

A customer of my previous employer. I was given the chance to show my worth and help take this dynamic young company in the Health Care Insurance world into the 21st century.

HTML, CSS & JavaScript web based applications. Linking member companies, members and service prividers to our backend.

Android and iOS mobile applications are now handled by outside developers, but I develop all API interfaces.

One of my side projects, an online system that controls the ordering of tombstones in branches all the way through to production and shipping makes use of a parameterised framework to generate 'web forms' on the fly, based on a 'Single Page Application' process.

I have expanded this for use in CWSFramework and I am constantly updating both frameworks as I add new features. This can be viewed on my GitHub page.

Concentrating mainly on bespoke systems such as online shuttle seat bookings and complex remote branch administration software.

Android hybrid HTML, CSS & JavaScript mobile applications and converted them into iOS.

Ilanga Trails

Event management & trail development

A semi-retirement from IT to follow a dream.

Presented many trail running events including the 2015 SA Ultra Trail Championships. Developed an event timing system that is still being used today.

Managed a citrus farm and export packhouse and developed the software for the control thereof.

Managed a staff complement that varied depending on projects, but up to 12 developers at a time. Many large projects for para-statals such as NHBC and corporates like Standard Bank. Had staff working overseas on contracts.

At the same time, we were one of the first web design agencies to implement on-line shopping for clients.

1994- 1996

Hardrive i-Café

Owner

The internet bug had bitten, and I had to be in the space. Hardrive allowed me to learn this new and exciting world from the ground up.

Skills such as Linux servers, web and mail hosting were all self-taught with a little help from Internet Solutions, Ronny Apteker in particular.

Together with my extremely young staff we were at the cutting edge of this awesome new technology,

1977-1994

Corporate World

Operator through Group IT Manager

After getting a diploma in Production management, then a stint in Welkom finding out my childhood dream career of Geology was not for me, I returned the Jo'burg and started as an operator in Data Processing shop of a large pharmaceuticaland cosmetic company Twins Products.

I slowly moved up the ladder, working at places like Carlton Hotel, where I went overseas to look for telephone management and POS system before they were ever introduced in SA. Back in the pharmaceutical world I became a very young Data Processing Manager for a multi-national, Schering Plough

I worked for a number of companies twice, always opting not to burn bridges, landing up with 12 years in the Altron group before learning about the Internet.
